Garden & Classroom Lessons

Help your students’ learning experiences come alive through real-world, hand-on, place based lessons in the school garden and in the classroom! GV Farm to School’s education programs teach children about where their food comes from, the importance of making mindful food choices, cooking and gardening skills, and the role agriculture plays in our community. They are:

  • Hands-on: featuring opportunities to grow, taste, cook, or get creative with local food.

  • Supportive of classroom standards in science, nutrition, and more: We are happy to work with teachers to ensure that our lessons line up with your learning goals.

  • Tailored to ages and grades: we serve Preschool and up, and offer lessons that align to specific grade standards and age ranges.

  • Adaptable: we can teach in school gardens, as well as in classrooms. We also offer lessons that can be taught outdoors in cold weather months!

As part of our classroom lessons, we will also help facilitate farm field trips!

“This is the best field trip I have ever been on with any of my children, all of whom are much older now! This is so important for the kids to learn!” - parent volunteer

GV Farm to School assists schools in creating successful farm field trip experiences. Join us on a local farm to meet the farmers that grow food for the Gallatin Valley, participate in farm jobs like planting, harvesting, and feeding animals, learn how food gets from the farm to your plate and taste farm-fresh food! GVF2S will help with field trip logistics, connections to farmers, and facilitation of activities during the day of the field trip, to ensure the most successful hands-on learning experience for your students.

To expand on the concepts learned at the farm, GVF2S also offers pre- and post-lessons in the classroom. These lessons introduce and reinforce standard-based learning outcomes selected for each particular age group.
