Gallatin County is fortunate to be home to phenomenal farm to school and school garden projects. Over the past few years these programs, such as the Hyalite Elementary School Garden, continue to grow, thrive, and inspire new programs. Meanwhile, local farmers and food producers are growing and making incredible foods from salsa to veggies to beef to bread! Gallatin Valley Farm to School invites all to take a mini “tour” of farm to school projects and local flavors at the Farm to School Showcase on April 3, 2014 beginning at 6:00pm at The Food Studio located at 2251 W. Kagy, Suite 1.
This virtual tour will include a glimpse of Gallatin Valley Farm to School’s successes and plans for the future and an exploration of school garden and farm to school endeavors throughout the area. Chef Daniel Wendell will offer tastes of valley with small plates showcasing foods from local producers. Between delicious eats and inspiring presentations, attendees will have ample time to connect with farm to school leaders to share ideas and ask questions. This meeting is also a great opportunity for school food service staff and farmers to meet and begin to make plans for offering healthy, farm-fresh foods in school meals.
The recipient of the Gallatin Valley Farm to School Carrot Award will be recognized during the evening. This award honors individuals or groups who champion farm to school efforts and have made progress in one or more of the three areas of farm to school—cafeteria, classroom, and community.
This meeting is free and all are welcome to attend. Please RSVP by email firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone (406) 219-1010. Light refreshments will be provided.
