Toolkit & Resources
Download the updated Farm to School Month Teacher Toolkit for activities, ideas, and standards-based lesson plans. New this year is our Farm Field Trip Toolkit with a list of area farms and tips for going on a farm field trip!
Passing a School Board Resolution is great way to gain school-wide support for Farm to School Month. Since 2012, Gallatin Valley Farm to School has worked with Bozeman Public School District staff and Board of Trustees to pass a resolution in support of the celebration. Feel free to use this sample language in crafting a resolution for your school district.
What is National Farm to School Month?
October is National Farm to School Month, a time to celebrate the connections happening all across the country between schools and local food producers. In 2010, Congress officially designated October as National Farm to School Month. Students celebrate by embarking on farm field trips, eating farm fresh foods in their school cafeterias, learning in their school gardens, and much more.

What is Food Day?
Food Day is a nationwide celebration of healthy, affordable, and sustainably produced food and a grassroots campaign for better food policies. It builds all year long and culminates on October 26. Food Day aims to help people Eat Real. That means cutting back on sugar drinks, overly salted packaged foods, and fatty, factory-farmed meats in favor of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and sustainably raised protein. Food Day envisions shorter lines at fast-food drive-thrus—and bigger crowds at farmers markets.
